Browsing


The OhioLINK Physics Demonstrations database contains 600 videos of physics experiments from The Video Encyclopedia of Physics Experiments produced by The Education Group. To view these videos, you will need to install RealPlayer on your computer. A free version of RealPlayer is available at http://www.real.com.

Searching

Highlight a field from the list, type search word(s) in the box, and click the SEARCH button (or press the ENTER key).

Keyword: elasticity
(finds records that have the word "elasticity" anywhere, e.g. video title, subject, description, or script)

Keyword: string or weights
(finds records that have the either "string" or "weights" anywhere)

Title: whirling or bucket
(finds experiments that have either "whirling" or "bucket" in the title)

Subject: buoyancy
(finds experiments on buoyancy)

Do not include punctuation in a search, or truncate a word.

OR: A search for two words together finds occurrences of either term.

Subject: fluid or dynamics
(finds records that have either "fluid" or "dynamics" in the subject)

AND: To search both words, use "and".

Subject: fluid and dynamics
(finds records that have both "fluid" AND "dynamics" in the subject)

PHRASE: Two or more words entered will search for the exact phrase.

Subject: fluid dynamics
(finds records that have the exact phrase "fluid dynamics" in the subject)

NOT: To exclude records that contain a particular word, use NOT.

Subject: fluid not dynamics
(finds records that contain "fluid" in the subject and excludes those that also contain "dynamics")

After forming your search statement, select parameters for your search results:


Search Results

The Search Results list shows a brief citation for each video retrieved by your search. Each brief citation includes the experiment's title and subject.

Use the scrollbar to view the results on a particular page. Use PREVIOUS | NEXT to navigate among pages.

You can also navigate within the results list by using the JUMP box. To jump to the end of the list, specify the last record number retrieved. To jump back to the beginning of the list, specify 1. Or, jump anywhere within the list to begin browsing at a new spot.

To select an experiment, click on the "Full Record" link.

Record Details: The full record shows a more complete textual description of the experiment. To bookmark the page, use the URL provided below Record Details.

View Video: View Video initiates streaming transmission of the video. This option will stream video to your browser at a quality based on your connection and network traffic at the time. With this option, you view the video as it is transmitted. This option is only available from campus based networks. If you have remotely authenticated, please select 'Download Video'.

Download Video: This method downloads the video to a file on your computer first. You may then display or save the file. This is the only available option if you have remotely authenticated to this site.

Related PDF: The PDF document is a printer-friendly version of the experiment description. It includes the script and may also have graphics, equations, or charts that cannot be rendered on the HTML display. This document may be useful as an instructional handout.


Browsing

Browse is an option on the Search Menu, which allows you to view an index of all experiments by Subject. For example, you can browse the list of subjects and select all experiments in a category, such as "Gravitation."
